no promises

at a young age i stopped believing in love
i think it was the first time i saw the princess bride
because i didn’t think love could be like that
i saw phallic ambitions in the mirror
for twenty five long years
until, hi, i’m terrible at this
there weren’t any sequins
there weren’t any swords
just the undeniable feeling of being in love
that i don’t know if i can sustain
but you take my hand and say no promises
and i believe in a certain kind of future
